How to File RTI with Delhi Education Department (School Admissions, RTE, Teacher Transfers)
Step-by-step guide to file an RTI with Delhi's Directorate of Education for nursery admission results, EWS/DG quota admissions under RTE, teacher transfer orders, and school infrastructure complaints. Includes a ready-to-use sample RTI draft.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi is the state authority responsible for administration of government schools, policy on private school admissions, implementation of the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009, and oversight of teacher recruitment and transfers in Delhi.
The Directorate of Education and district education offices are public authorities under Section 2(h) of the RTI Act, 2005. Citizens — particularly parents — use RTI extensively in Delhi to challenge nursery admission decisions, understand EWS/DG draw of lots outcomes under the RTE Act, and document school infrastructure failures.
What Can You Achieve with an RTI to the Delhi Education Department?
- Get the criteria, weightage, and points used in nursery admission draw of lots for a specific school
- Know the EWS/DG seat allocation, number of applicants, and draw result under Section 12 of the RTE Act
- Obtain the basis of a teacher transfer order affecting your child's school
- Get the action taken report on a school infrastructure or safety complaint
- Know the budget allocation and expenditure for a specific school under the Directorate
- Obtain information about Mid-Day Meal scheme implementation at a specific school
- Get information about School Management Committee (SMC) meetings and proceedings
Where to File: The Right Authority
Delhi is divided into education districts. File your RTI with the appropriate level depending on your issue:
- Nursery / EWS admission at a specific school: File with the school's management (for private schools) or the Directorate of Education (for government schools and policy matters)
- Teacher transfers: File with the District Education Officer (DEO) or Directorate of Education HQ
- School infrastructure / safety: File with the District Education Office for the area
- Policy and budget matters: File with the Directorate of Education, GNCTD
On the Delhi RTI portal at rti.delhi.gov.in, select: Directorate of Education and then the relevant district office.
How to File: Step by Step
