How long does it take to get a response from the government?

As per the RTI Act 2005, the Public Information Officer (PIO) is required to respond within 30 days of receiving the application. If the information concerns the life or liberty of a person, the response must be provided within 48 hours.

What if the government department doesn't reply or provides a wrong answer?

If you don't receive a response within the 30-day limit, or if the response is incomplete or unsatisfactory, you have the right to file a First Appeal. If the First Appellate Authority also fails to provide a satisfactory response within 30-45 days, you can file a Second Appeal with the Information Commission (Central or State). Finally, if you are still not satisfied with the Commission's decision, the matter can be escalated to the High Court or Supreme Court via a Writ Petition for judicial review.

Do I need any legal knowledge to use RTI Sathi?

Not at all. You just need to explain your situation or grievance in simple language. Our team researches the correct ministry, identifies the right department, and drafts the application using the proper legal terminology on your behalf.

Is my personal information and case details kept confidential?

Yes, strictly. We understand that many RTIs involve sensitive personal or community issues. Your details are used solely for the purpose of researching and filing your application. We never share your data with third parties.

When do I have to pay the ₹149 fee?

We follow a "Zero Upfront Risk" model. You submit your case for free. We research it, call you to discuss the details, and draft the application. You only pay after the draft is ready and you are satisfied with it.

Can RTI Sathi help me file a First Appeal?

Yes. If the Public Information Officer (PIO) does not respond within 30 days, or if the response is incomplete, evasive, or unsatisfactory, you can file a First Appeal with the designated First Appellate Authority. RTI Sathi will review your original RTI response, identify the correct First Appellate Authority, draft the appeal in the required legal format, and file it on your behalf — for a flat fee of ₹199 + 18% GST, payable only after the appeal is ready.

What is the Second Appeal and when should I file one?

If the First Appellate Authority does not respond within 30–45 days, or if their order is still unsatisfactory, you can escalate to the Central Information Commission (CIC) for Central Government matters, or the relevant State Information Commission (SIC) for State Government matters. RTI Sathi will draft and file this Second Appeal for a flat fee of ₹199 + 18% GST, payable only after the appeal is prepared.
